ASET/GATE test is used to select students for gifted and talented programs in Western Australia. This test is designed for entry into selective High Schools in Year 7 through the Gifted and Talented Program.
To receive a placement into the Gifted and Talented Program, your child must sit the GATE test held in March for students in Year 6.

The test consists of four components:
Reading Comprehension
The reading comprehension component of the ASET/GATE test is multiple choice with 35 questions in 35 minutes time. This section assesses your child's ability to understand and interpret written texts. This involves reading passages of varying lengths and answering questions that test their comprehension, inference, and deduction skills.

All children who sit the GATE/ASET Test will receive an emailed performance report at the end of May. Offers of placement come in mid-June.
Your child’s report will show their individual scores in the 4 components, and their total standard score (TSS), which is the sum of all 4 components
Placement into the Academic Program is based on TSS, and the minimum requirement is between 230-245. However, due to intense competition, the required TSS is much higher.
You can provide 3 preferences for the school that you would like to enter into, which can be changed before the first round of offers.
